Welcome to the Somerset Prepared winter update!
Already this year we've seen a variety of winter weather that has presented challenges to both responding agencies and communities alike. Storms Aileen, Brian and Caroline brought high winds and heavy rain and in recent weeks we've seen prolonged periods of low temperatures and heavy snow across the country.
With this in mind and the festive season in full swing, it's the perfect time to check on those more vulnerable in our communities and offer support to prepare for winter disruptions. For tips and advice visit the winter weather pages of our website.
Somerset Emergency Community Contacts
To help improve coordination between communities and responders during times of emergency the Somerset local authorities have developed a community contacts scheme.
The scheme aims to provide a link through which valuable information can be exchanged about the local conditions, impacts and response activity taking place. All Parish and Town councils in Somerset can nominate people for this role so if you know someone suitable or would like some more information visit our website, we'd love to have you on board.
Merry Christmas!
As we all put the finishing touches on preparations for the holiday break, take a moment to think about any emergency preparations that might help things to go smoothly. If you're travelling to see family and loved ones these 12 tips for winter driving may also be useful.
From all the team, we wish you a safe and merry Christmas and happy New Year.
Best wishes,
