Celebrating National Volunteers Week 2017

Celebrating National Volunteers Week 2017

Volunteers’ Week is an annual event taking place at the start of June and celebrates the contribution made by millions of volunteers across the UK. It’s run by the National Council for Voluntary Organisations in partnership with Volunteer Development Scotland, Volunteer Now(Northern Ireland) and Wales Council for Voluntary Action.

In Somerset, voluntary sector organisations come together with the emergency services and local authorities to plan, train, exercise and respond to emergencies affecting the County.

The contribution made by these organisations – not always seen by the public – is widely recognised and invaluable to keeping the population of Somerset safe.

To find out more about these agencies including case studies and how to get involved, visit our Volunteers page and join the conversation on twitter using #volunteersweek.

‘Volunteers don’t get paid, not because they’re worthless, but because they’re priceless’.
