Pandemic Flu

Pandemic flu is a natural phenomenon that has occurred from time to time for centuries – including 3 times during the 20th century. It presents a real and daunting challenge to economic and social wellbeing, as well as a serious risk to the health of the population.

Government departments and partner agencies are responsible for producing plans to mitigate the impacts of a human influenza pandemic but however well developed these plans are, they are unlikely to be successful without the active support of individuals and communities.

By following advice and guidance and adopting basic hygiene measures to manage or reduce your own risk of catching or spreading the virus, you will be actively supporting the national response.
