The Somerset Local Authorities maintain a database of large facilities and trained staff across the County suitable for providing shelter and support in the event of an emergency.

In addition to this we recognise that not all emergencies affect large populations and in some cases, by the time we activate our staff and resources the incident may well be over – this is where the Place of Safety scheme comes in!

We have worked with communities and businesses to identify your local facilities, add them to our database and provide keyholders with support to look after small numbers of people locally. This means you’ll be looked after a lot quicker and possibly even by someone you know – helping to make a very stressful situation a little more manageable.
